A constructed language is a language whose phonology, grammar, and vocabulary, instead of having developed naturally, are consciously devised for some purpose, which may include being devised for a work of fiction.
Substitution scripts
A fictional language generated by mapping different glyphs onto a previously existing written language.
- Old Hylian
- Used in the Legend of Zelda series; maps to written Japanese language.[1]
- Modern Hylian
- Used in the Legend of Zelda series; maps to written Japanese language.[2]
- Hylian alphabet
- Used in the Legend of Zelda series; maps to written English language.[3]
Substitution syllabaries
A fictional language generated by mapping each syllable to a different substitute syllable.
- Al Bhed: Used in Final Fantasy X.
