0 Prologue: As One Country Rises Ichiha helps Sami shelves books in Parnam's library. They discuss Fuuga; Yuriga eavesdrops. Yuriga privately asks Kazuya and Hakuya whether Fuuga was justified in killing the neutral heads of state including Sami's adoptive father. Kazuya refuses to give a clear answer since he must maintain neutrality and the methods of statecraft are intractable.[cmt 4]

Kazuya recognizes the characters as Chinese graphemes and infers characters Mary had yet to share. Genia hypothesizes Kazuya's home was on the same planet in the distant past. Kazuya and Genia hypothesize nanomachines cause magic and curse ore is clumps of dormant nanomachines. Yuriga delivers a request from Fuuga for a sea delivery of supplies to the western shore of Landia now that his conquest has extended from Malhitam on the eastern shore; Fuuga offers a port city to Kazuya on exchange. Kazuya and Hakuya conclude they must accept Fuuga's offer so as not to provoke hostilities from Fuuga supporters.
3 Envoy Kazuya meets with Kuu and Shabon. Kazuya recounts the failure of an envoy of the Spirit Kingdom to request assistance from Kazuya to have the Maritime Alliance rid the Father Island and Mother Island of their Kingdom of monsters; envoy Gerula would not compromise on the Spirit Kingdom's racist policies against non-High Elves. Kazuya warns Gerula that Maria also would reject requests unless racial policies were changed; Kazuya warns Gerula that Fuuga is likely to betray Gerula due to their conquistador momentum. Gerula also fails to request assistance from Maria. Gerula succeeds in requesting assistance from Fuuga.
4 The Battle of the Father Island Fuuga holds a war council with Hashim, Shuukin, and Mutsumi. Fuuga wishes for a naval force since Durga refuses to fly across water; Hashim says a navy is too expensive. Hashim presents a plan to split the Spirit Kingdom by supporting the creation of a non-racist puppet state on Father Island populated by oppressed races of the Spirit Kingdom. Fuuga selects Shuukin to run the operation. Hashim orders Shuukin to kill Bito, King of Gabi by sending him deep into the front line; Bito dies attempting to capture a ruined city in Father Island. In the Spirit Kingdom, Garula sends his liberal daughter, Elulu, to assist Fuuga's forces clear Father Island of monsters. Elulu supports Shuukin in battle; they flirt. Shuukin recruits Elulu to head a puppet state of Father Island. Shuukin falls ill.
5 The Spirit King’s Curse Kazuya and Hakuya discuss a fatal illness plaguing Father Island called the Spirit King's Curse. Kazuya holds an emergency conference call with Fuuga after jewel receivers are exchanged over several days. Fuuga personally requests aid to save his warrior companions including Shuukin. Kazuya reluctantly agrees to help since epidemics can become pandemics. Fuuga says the disease has mostly affected warriors and not support personnel. Hilde questions Fuuga and determines the disease is not very contagious and the vector is likely monsters. The disease causes weakness, then a gradual disabling of the victim's ability to use magic or be healed by magic, followed by death. Kazuya warns Fuuga to not allow himself, Hashim, or others to attempt to weaponize the illness. Hakuya debates with Hashim as to the culpability of Fuuga but Fuuga bows to Kazuya and humbly requests help; Kazuya relents and agrees to a coöperative investigation. Hilde and Brad wish to travel to Father Island but Kazuya forbids endangering them due to their high value as medical experts.

  1. Baltakatei: 2025-03-16: Like most isekai stories, “human” (人間?) refers to intelligent creatures closely resembling homo sapiens of Earth. Often, the more powerful and intelligent a “human” or even a human-like monster is, the more beautiful by real-world Japanese standards they become (i.e. slender, unblemished, big-breasted (women), muscular (men)). In other words, as “ugly” monsters become more powerful (through magic or personal determination and training), they become more “human”. Yes, that is 20th century eugenics in fiction that is so prevalent that is goes unacknowledged except in footnotes like this one.
