- ↑ Baltakatei: 2025-03-16: Like most isekai stories, “human” (人間?) refers to intelligent creatures closely resembling homo sapiens of Earth. Often, the more powerful and intelligent a “human” or even a human-like monster is, the more beautiful by real-world Japanese standards they become (i.e. slender, unblemished, big-breasted (women), muscular (men)). In other words, as “ugly” monsters become more powerful (through magic or personal determination and training), they become more “human”. Yes, that is 20th century eugenics in fiction that is so prevalent that is goes unacknowledged except in footnotes like this one. So, if youʼre reading this from a few thousand years from now, sorry, we really are obsessed with the homo sapiens body plan. As someone reading this for the first time, I have high hopes for Tomoeʼs ability to talk to animals; the fact that conversation is possible with them should immediately clue you in to the fact that animals, being conscious beings, are people just like homo sapiens are. Perhaps the existence of factory farms on real-world Earth prevents people of that world from thinking too hard about themselves or their neighbors and pet-slaves being made of meat themselves.
