MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) is a type of video game played by many players simultaneously in a shared world. For aesthetic and engineering requirements, often a single game will be played in multiple "shards", or, parallel worlds with the same content but in separate causal domains.
MMORPGs became fashionable in parallel with the emergence of the Internet.
