Only a handful of ships will be completed soon with geometric increase in production occuring over the next few years. Exponential increase in budget raises concern with Kantil.
- 28:59:30. Leopoldivich (meta: Leo) highlights illogicality of Prime's crash course wormhole project. Leo warns against assuming Primes will take logical actions regarding Commonwealth. Leo warns the Primes likely have compromised the memories of Bose and or Verbiki (?). Leo warns that the Commonwealth Navy strength is orders if magnitude smaller than observed Prime fleets. Leo advises the creation and installation of weapons which can pierce forcefields that will likely shield Prime wormholes.
29:06:29. (POV: Paula Myo). Paula visits a Paris Bistro. A summary of office politics involving orders from Rafael Columbia to relocate to Kerensk, organizational shifts (the Serious Crimes Directorate became part of the Commonwealth Defense Agency which transformed into the Commonwealth Navy Defense Department), and Paula's own determination to not have her investigation into Johansson disrupted. Paula receives a call from Thompson Burnelli, her political contact. Thompson informs Paula that the Executive does not have a covert operations group and so could not have been the host organization for the assailant that disrupted Paula's Venice Coast arms deal investigation. Thompson tells Paula that their efforts to have exports sent to Far Away inspected have been stymied by some unidentifiable political entity. Thompson shares that such a minor request having such strong opposition is highly unusual. Thompson reassures Paula that they will continue to lobby to get Far Away imports inspected.

- 30:51:55. (Location: Trineba) Mark has a meal on the catamaran with fellow Randtown citizens (Lydia and David Dunbervan and company). Mark sulks when the topic of Alyssadra Baron (?)'s propaganda comes up. Liz and the Dumbervans assert the Randtown is resilient enough to survive since most buyers of exports share many of Randtown's ecological ideals.
- The group witnesses heavy lift helicopters flying near Golal (?), one of the Dau'sing peaks above Randtown. Mark concludes and laments that it is a Navy wormhole detector station. Liz chides and comforts Mark.
30:57:29. (POV: N/A) A Guardian shotgun message warning the Commonwealth that Elaine Doi id a Starflyer agent.
30:59:36. (POV: Paula Myo, Location: her Paris office) Paula does paperwork following up the LA Galactic failure. Paula thinks about Thompson Burnelli's murder. Admiral Rafael Columbia arrives and reprimands Paula for failing to utilize a sufficiently large amount of Navy resources to track the guardian at LA Galactic. Paula says they used a small team because she believes the Navy has a leak, although she has no solid evidence yet. Columbia says Paula is incompetent and neurotic, blaming an imaginary leak. Columbia strips Paula of authority over leading the Guardian investigation and places his deputy, Alic Hogan (?) in charge. Paula quits.
- Paula returns to her apartment 1 kilometer away, recalls her kidnapper parents leaving the courtroom 160 years ago, and cries.

- 31:38:13. Paula visits freethinker Leonard Denken, the great grandson of a previous freethinker Alexis Denken who was Paula's mentor and lover following her kidnapper parents's trial. Paula says she needs advice. Paula explains her Guardian case and the mounting circumstantial evidence that implies the existence of the Starflyer and the just cause of Bradley Johansson. Paula explains that the assassinated senator Thompson Burnelli asserted that Nigel Sheldon's office supported the Guardians by blocking inspections on cargo to Far Away. After some discussion, Leonard advises Paula to contact Johansson directly on Far Away since the Starflyer poses a greater threat than Johansson, especially if the Guardians'd claim that the release of the Dyson Alpha aliens was engineered by the Starflyer to harm the Commonwealth. Paula decides to accept Leonard's advice. Leonard decides to take Paula's advice to marry his very young girlfriend, nurse Matilda.
32:00:57. Paula encounters Gore Burnelli at the entrance of her apartment.
Chapter 23
32:01:25; page 846

32:01:25. (POV: Justine Burnelli) A history of the Tulip Mansion in Rye (?) County, New York, built by billionaire Miles Foran (?). A mention of Jeff Baker, inventor of crystal memory storage technology which wiped out the wealth of Miles Foran (?).
32:04:30. Justine holds Muriel's engagement party at the Tulip Mansion. A description of legal and financial details of the union between Muriel of the Burnelli family and their engaged partner of the Constantine (?) family.
- 32:11:22. Muriel offers Justine a night with her beau, Sterial (?). Justine is amazed at her sincerity and youthful attitude.
- 32:12:30. Justine and Muriel stiffly greet Alessandra Baron (?) and Mellanie Rescouri (?). Baron asks Justine to ask Thompson for an interview as soon as he is re-lifed. Mellanie congratulates Muriel.
- 32:14:50. Gore Burnelli arrives with Paula Myo, whose business suit Justine notices violates the party's 1950s clothing requirement.
- 32:18:34. Paula shares with Justine that she suspects the assassin that killed Thompson worked for the Starflyer. Justine rejects the notion out of hand. Gore Burnelli tells Justine he believes Paula. Justine is aghast. Gore cites the ease with which they were able to make political deals to profit from the creation of the Navy during the Sorbonne Wood weekend. Gore asks Justine to put Paula as head of Senate Security so she can continue following the case via the Navy Intelligence. Gore says he will send family covert ops agents to investigate both the Guardian and Starflyer factions on Far Away. Justine, as a Commonwealth Senator with power, agrees to give Paula the security clearances and requires. Justine remains unconvinced that the Starflyer is real but obeys her father.
32:23:27. (POV: Mellanie) An overview of Mellanie's crash course effort to blend in with Commonwealth high society. Alessandra Baron asks Mellanie to seduce and fuck Campbell Sheldon for intelligence on the Navy starship construction status. Mellanie spots Paula Myo. Mellanie asks Alessandra for permission to investigate Paula in exchange for sucking Campbell's dick. Alessandra agrees.
32:28:20. (POV: Justine Burnelli) Justine is annoyed her father believes the Starflyer is real, attributing his folly to the shock from the death of his son, Thompson.
- 32:30:13. Kazimir McFoster, disguised as a waiter, gives Justine a hat she left behind on Far Away. They have passionate sex through the night in her bedroom. On the morning, Kazimir reveals he still works for the Guardians. Justine pleads with Kazimir to renounce the Guardians. Kazimir refuses. Justine and Kazimir declare their love for one another. Kazimir departs. Justine calls Alic Hogan (?) to report Kazimir to the Navy.
32:40:34. (POV: Mellanie) Mellanie stalks Paula Myo, waiting outside her Paris apartment. Mellanie attempts to surreptitiously tail Paula in order to use her destination to dig up more details to justify to Alessandra Baron her will to learn more about Paula's activities. Mellanie fails; Paula confronts Mellanie, telling her that the Paul Cramley (?), the software developer whose illicit programs permitted Mellanie to track down Paula, is to be prosecuted and their equipment likely taken away. Paula refuses to give Mellanie any intelligence except for a vague hint to investigate deep space. The SI informs Mellanie that Paula is capable of lying if lies facilitate her investigations.
32:46:02. (POV: Oscar Munroe) The StAsaf (?) returns to the High Angel. Captain McClain Gilbert reports that no Prime wormhole activity was detected. Gilbert joins Oscar Munroe and Wilson Kime to watch the christening of the warship Dauntless.
- 32:50:41. Oscar arrives at the hotel venue for the Welcome Back ceremony for Bose and Verbiki. Oscar is hungover and irritated. Antonia[14], a friend, helps medicate Oscar with a hangover treatment injection. Oscar is Master of Ceremonies for the cermony. Oscar gives a speech at the event, irritated that he cannot tell how he felt annoyed by how the incompetent Bose had been allowed on the Second Chance mission at all.
- 32:53:30. Dudley Bose uses their speech to criticize the Navy for leaving him to die. Oscar speaks frankly about how Bose was not appropriate nor prepared for the mission. Alessandra Baron criticizes Oscar and Captain Kime for failing to leverage their FTL advantage to outmaneuver the Dyson Alpha aliens. Oscar reiterates the Second Chance mission was to collect intelligence and Bose screwed up. Oscar's friend Antonia hurries him off stage before the media asks more questions.
32:57:55. (POV: Dudley Bose) Dudley escapes his handlers. Dudley is proud for telling off the Navy. Mellanie approaches and seduces Dudley, pretending to be a fan of Dudley. Mellanie leads Dudley to her hotel room.
33:02:32. (POV: Oscar Munroe, Location: a hotel near New Costa Junction) Oscar relaxes after escaping reporters following the Welcome Back Ceremony fiasco and the cancellation of the planned subsequent banquet.
- 33:04:59: Adam Elvin approaches Oscar in his own hotel room. Oscar recognizes Adam. Adam brings up the fact that Oscar used to be a comrade for the Socialist party. Adam criticizes Oscar for working for CST, the largest capitalist corporation if the Commonwealth. Oscar brings up their shared history under Professor Greva (?), saying the professor hoodwinked both of them into fighting for a lost cause.
- Adam asks Oscar to review the Second Chance logs to find out who switched off the Dyson Alpha Barrier and who sabotaged the sensors that got Bose and Verbiki lost. Oscar initially believes Adam is indirectly asking him to apply Guardian misinformation into the logs. Adam slugs Oscar, saying the request is genuine and the Guardians want an honest review of the data, not a forgery.
Chapter 24
33:19:50; page 880
Carys helps Mark. Mellanie learns Paula suspects the Starflyer. The Primes attack the Commonwealth.
33:19:50. (POV: Carys Panther) Carys arrives at Elan, heading to Randtown. A brief description of Carys's profession of writing long somewhat fantastic stories.[15] Carys drives fast and violates speed limits.
33:25:01. (POV: Mellanie; Location: Randtown, Elan) Mellanie fucks Dudley for several days. Between mental illness related to his re-life, his divorce from Wendy, and hatred for the Navy, Dudley is distracted by star constellations that indicate he is on Elan. Dudley mentions they are as close to the Dyson Alpha pair as is possible without being on Far Away.
- 33:29:55. Dudley mentions being burgled by the Guardians and how Paula Myo took so much of an interest that she took Dudley out of his partial rejuvenation treatment during the aftermath of the Guardian attack on the Second Chance. Dudley shares with Mellanie how his wife likely met Bradley Johansson, according to Paula Myo. Mellanie fucks Dudley hard in personal celebration for finding a lead on a Paula Myo story that could free her from Alessandra Baron's patronage. Dudley becomes worried that Mellanie will leave.
33:31:43. (POV: Mark Vernon, Randtown) Carys Panther arrives at Randtown and meets up with Mark and his family. Mark is mildly amused and aghast when Carys mentions that the automobile she arrived in was not her property but that of her boyfriend's wife.
33:35:28. (POV: Mellanie; Location: Randtown, Elan) Dudley is worried Mellanie will abandon him now after he gave her valuable intelligence on Paula Myo. Mellanie reassures Dudley with more sex. Dudley soils hotel furniture with breakfast food with his violent copulations. Dudley recounts how he met Paula Myo; it was immediately following the attack on the Second Chance when Paula was given broad powers to investigate the Guardians who had launched the attack. Bose said Paula had simply been investigating anomalies and the burglary of Bose's equipment carrying credentials to log into the Cox Educational Charity had interested her. Bose recalls that Wendy had spoken to a reporter who had asked about who funded Dudley Bose's observation of the Dyson Pair. When Wendy disclosed the name of the charity that had been the primary financial backer, Bose's house was burgled and equipment containing login credentials to the charity was stolen.[16] Dudley highlights a serendipitous comment said by the reporter, likely Bradley Johansson according to Paula, who asked Wendy to pass a message on to someone named “Paula”: “Stop concentrating on the details. It's the big picture that counts.”. Dudley Bose gives Mellanie the name of the charity that Bradley Johansson believes funded the Dyson Pair observation: the Cox Educational Charity.
- 33:40:50. During a recuperative bath Mellanie calls the SI. Mellanie asks the SI to review the public information available for the Cox Charity Foundation accounts. The SI highlights a misleading financial discrepancy: despite donating a very large amount (1.3 million earth dollars) to fund Bose's Dyson Pair observations, the Cox Foundation donated extremely small amounts to many other causes besides Bose's as if to conceal its focused financial support from cursory inspection; 70 000 earth dollars, in total, donated to over 100 science projects. The SI gives Mellanie the name of the law firm and the associates who executed the Cox donations. The SI notes the charity shut down 2 years after Dudley observed the envelopment, 6 months after Paula interviewed Bose.
33:42:42. (POV: Mark Vernon, Loc: Randtown, Mark Vernon's home) Carys mentions a recent Uni sphere poll that made her nephew, Mark Vernon, the “Most Hated Man in the Commonwealth”, due to his comments broadcast on Alessandra Baron's show. Carys, as an entertainment media expert Liz called for help, councils Mark about how he can repair his and, more important to Mark's future, Randtown's image. Carys cites ski season ticket prices: 50% discounts are being offered very earli, indicating few people are travelling to Randtown. Carys offers to coach Mark to be able to talk on live interviews to dispel the hate.
- 33:44:55. Before Carys can elaborate further, Mark, Liz, Carys, and the children notice a bright flash. Look hearing Sandy squeal in pain in the outside garden, adults, Mark, Liz, and Carys, exit Mark's dry coral dome house to investigate. They witness several flashes of light and what appears to be a bright sun and clouds rising above where the Dau'sing Mountains should be. One flash results in Mark's wrist array suddenly deactivating. Mark deduces the detector station has been nuked. The sound blast reaches Mark and company.
33:46:43. (POV: Mellanie, Location: Randtown, a hotel) Mellanie reports to Alessandra Baron the Paula Myo - Dudley Bose - Guardian connection and shares that she's been fucking Dudley Bose for information. Mellanie shares her conclusion that Paula Myo suspects, if not outright believes, that the Starflyer is real; Mellanie cites the suspicious financial records surrounding the Cox Educational Charity. Alessandra asks Mellanie to let her talk to Dudley Bose.
- 33:50:25. During Mellanie's call, SI suddenly advises Mellanie to take cover on the floor beside a nearby bed. The SI warns Mellanie that Navy wormhole detector stations have detected wormhole activity within the Commonwealth. The SI says the nearby Regents detector station is under attack. Mellanie takes cover. A bright flash occurs outside.
33:51:24. (POV: Wilson Kime, Location: ?) While planning a meeting for providing updates on warship construction, Wilson Kime receives an emergency report of 48 wormholes open in each of 23 star systems; over 1100 unregistered wormholes have opened. Wilson regrets that only 3 functional warships are in service and only 8 scoutships refitted as middle carriers. Scarlet diamond-shaped wormholes launch nuclear missiles at multiple wormhole detector stations, reducing the Navy's wormhole detection resolution. Anna Hober joins Kime in analyzing the attack.
- Far from the other attacked Phase 3 planets, the Bug15 world of Wessex is under attack.
- 33:57:30. Captain Tu Lee of the Second Chance reports available for duty. Kime orders Tu Lee to intercept missiles striking Anshun's surface.
33:58:15. (POV: Tu Lee; Loc: Second Chance, over Ashun) SC intercepts several missiles with plasma lances but is eventually overwhelmed with sheer numbers. SC escapes via its own wormhole. Tu Lee receives reports that hostile missiles have poor automation; many are disabled by EMP blasts.
- 34:04:04. Tu Lee mines space above Anshun with loiter missiles.
- 34:05:30. 8 Prime wormholes encircle the SC, disabling the SC's own wormhole. 8 additional wormholes appear closer to the SC, releasing 96 missiles each.
34:06:24. (POV: Nigel Sheldon; Location: a mansion in New Costa) Nigel enters a virtual reality environment in order to accelerate his own reaction time and augment his own cognitive processes to be able to grasp the attack on the 23 planets. Nigel activates force fields across all CST stations. Force fields of the 23 attacked planets activate immediately and without warning to ward off the nuclear missile bombardment, causing massive loss of life as various classes of transport vehicles en route towards the stations crash into force field barriers. CST stations on planets not under attack permit transports time to slow down or to pass through into the station unharmed. Nigel calls a meeting with the SI.
- 34:10:49. Nigel sees Alan Hutchinson (?), the founder of Wessex, commanding combat aerobots to intercept missiles falling upon Narrabri, the main city of Wessex.
- 34:12:26. Nigel sees Tu Lee, one of his direct descendants and captain of the Second Chance, get intercepted and destroyed above Anshun.
- 34:15:36. Nigel takes direct control of three Narrabri Station CST wormholes in order to interfere with the Prime wormholes above Wessex. Nigel unarchives memories of his knowledge of wormhole physics. Narrabri asks the SI for help who, surprisingly, finally offers assistance besides indirect counsel. The SI takes direct control over wormhole actuation and follows directions given by Nigel. Nigel and the SI successfully destroys one of forty-eight wormholes above Wessex at the cost of one CST wormhole.
34:18:29. (POV: MLM) MLM is cautious as it prepares to invade the Commonwealth. prior to the attack, MLM colonizes 8 habitable planets in systems near its home world. MLM decides that, despite the distance between itself and the Commonwealth, eventually they would one day compete for the same material resources. MLM aspires to achieve immortality by colonizing every part of the galaxy.
- 34:20:39. MLM opens 1104 wormholes into the Commonwealth. MLM suddenly loses 3 wormholes attacking Wessex before they conclude the losses are being caused by a counterattack. MLM presses the attack over Wessex but loses confidence in its ability to outperform Commonwealth control systems and power availability. MLM loses a total of 30 wormholes before they cease their attack on Wessex and redirect wormholes to strengthen their attack on other planets. MLM prepares to send its fleet of 48,000 ships.
34:25:40. (POV: Wilson June) Wilson holds a meeting with Nigel Sheldon, Elaine Doi, Tunde Sutton, and Dimitri Leopoldovich. Elaine Doi asks Sheldon to destroy all alien wormholes. Nigel Sheldon notes CST lost 18 Anshun wormhole generators destroying only 30 alien wormholes.[17]
34:31:52. (POV: Mark Vernon) Amid broken glass and blown down vineyards, Mark, Liz, their kids, and Carys take stock. Mark repairs his family vehicle. Carys's vehicle is nearly completely functional. Mark, Liz, and Carys debate on an evacuation destination. Carys believes Randtown is safe since it likely holds no strategic value. Carys argues a journey through the Regents to return to Elan's planetary CST station is too long and exposed. Liz argues they need to travel to Randtown to gather more intelligence on their situation. They pack up their things, load up the kids's dog, Panda, and evacuate to Randtown.
- 34:37:58. Mark and company arrive at Randtown. A description of the devastated city: glass shards everywhere, blood running in the streets, dead bodies strewn about. Mark vomits.
- 34:46:57. Mark encounters an injured Mellanie Rescouri accompanying Simon Rand. Mellanie gives a crowd a summary of the Prime attack on Wessex. Mark, knowing how networks work and being unable to establish network connectivity with the Unisphere, accuses Mellanie of lying. Mellanie gives Mark a low bandwidth connection to the Unisphere, saying she has “long range inserts”. Simon announces an evacuation of Randtown. CST is scheduled to open a wormhole to Randtown eventually. Mark and others of Randtown lament their low number on the wormhole evacuation priority list. Mellanie receives bad news. Simon announces a change of plans: Randtown will evacuate to the High Marsh. Mellanie points to an alien ship landing in the Trineʼba.
34:52:00. (POV: Alessandra Baron) Alessandra is excited to cover the alien invasion. Alessandra works with Bunny, an assistant (?) to coordinate news gathering from field reporters.
- 34:56:09. Alessandra learns Melanie is alive and in Randtown despite Randtown being disconnected from the Unispherr. Bunny puts Mellanie's viewpoint on the live broadcast feed. Baron watches two Prime ships descend into a lake. Baron cries out for Mellanie to run. Mellanie replies that she isn't able to before her feed cuts out.
35:01:36. (POV: Wilson Kime) Wilson coordinates the Commonwealth military response. The SI analyzes MLM's communications and deduces it is a singular entity that has integrated itself with its machinery. The SI generates a wireless interference signal which causes MLM's units to cease obeying instructions. Mellanie gives Mark and the other defenders weapons from the disabled alien infantry.
- 35:36:30. The SI makes first contact with MLM. MLM claims it must extinguish all other life besides itself in order to achieve immortality. The SI says MLM is simply inexperienced and has not yet learned to coëxist with other civilizations. MLM orders its infantry to disengage from its communication system and to take independent action to attack, sacrificing control for autonomy to circumvent the SI's interference signals. MLM sends 18 flyers to attack Mellanie's position.
- 35:40:15. Mellanie escapes via a wormhole the SI opens for her. Mellanie deduces she is on Ozzie's asteroid. Mellanie demands the SI use Ozzie's wormhole to evacuate the citizens of Randtown. The SI is reluctant.
35:43:20. (POV: Wilson Kime) Wilson sees electronic warfare (EW) aerobots completely disable alien flyers and infantry at Scraptoft (?). Wilson orders Columbia to deploy all available EW units and to counterattack with combat aerobots. The SI volunteers to use civilian Unisphere wireless infrastructure to interfere with Prime signals. Wilson accepts the help. Ana reports the Commonwealth Navy ships have arrived at a rendezvous point.
35:46:44. (POV: None; Location: Anshun). 2 warships and 3 scout ships of the Commonwealth fight above Anshun. The night sky becomes bright as daylight. Laser fire turns some spots of planetary surface rock molten. After an hour, the battle concludes with Prime ships continuing their landings.

Mark laments the incoming of an orbital strike, falling to his knees and cursing the aliens. Mellanie informs Mark that the lights are something the Commonwealth did. Liz and Mellanie haul Mark up and send him through the wormhole. Simon Rand refuses to evacuate, opting instead to continue to fight in Elan.
36:18:53. (POV: MLM) MLM loses an entire asteroid and 287 wormhole generators to a suicide attack by a human starship. MLM nearly loses its main wormhole. MLM reorganizes exit points for its remaining wormholes and continues to send ships through to occupy the Commonwealth.

The story never mentioned the Prime aliens communicating with Kime nor sending any self-identifiers. The simplest way to fill this hole is to assume some Commonwealth intelligence analyst came up with the name and it was later adopted by the Commonwealth and Silfen for clarity of communication.
