Cost groups
Baby Pokémon (i.e. hatched from eggs) generally are in a lower cost group than what they evolve into. Therefore, power them up before evolving in order to save stardust and candy. As of 2025-10, the only exceptions to non-baby Pokémon going up in cost group is the evolution of Hisuian Sneasel and Hisuian Qwilfish. Otherwise, evolution does not affect stardust or candy costs when powering up a Pokémon un Pokémon GO.[3]
