The January 6 United States Capitol attack was a historical event that took place in 2021-01-06 in which a mob attacked the United States Capitol Building at the behest of the defeated U.S. President Donald Trump in order to stop the count of electoral college votes in order to effect a self-coup and therefore maintain his political power for the Republican Party.
