Radicalized is a collection of fictional books published in 2019 by Cory Doctorow about society failing to integrate technology. It contains four novellas including Unauthorized Toast, Model Minority, Radicalized, and The Masque of the Red Death.

Components

  • Unauthorized Bread: A story about an immigrant to the US who unknowingly fights against a combination of their landlord, kitchen appliance manufacturers, and food suppliers when they bypass the DRM on their bread oven.
  • Model Minority: A story in which not-Superman becomes an outlaw for saving a black man from a police lynching.
  • Radicalized: A man finds comfort in an anonymous support group for family of cancer victims after his wife is diagnosed with cancer. He finds himself a target of the law when he sympathizes with terrorists in the group who attack insurance companies who decided to maximize profit by denying cancer victims treatment.
  • The Masque of the Red Death: A billionaire doomsday prepper takes shelter during a deadly pandemic with a select group of bros and breedable beautiul women in rural USA. They chase off outsiders seeking shelter and plot ways to use their stockpile of weapons to seize local power. They all eventually get infected and die due to their lack of community support. Their post-mortem legacy is providing supplies to a survivor they turned away who helped others survive in a nearby city by cooperating to maintain water supply equipment.
